If you learn that someone doesn't believe in evolution, does that make you lose...

respect for him/her?

I’m just wondering about people’s responses to this question in particular.

Most people don’t seem to care whether a person is religious or not. however, it seems that once the line goes to evolution, then strong sentiments (esp. the scientific community) start to get expressed

Yes. I also lose respect for people’s ideas and intellectual capacity when they say they are religious. Luckily, I don’t particularly have to respect a person’s ideas to get along with them.

Yes, absolutely.

This is distinct from being religious - one can be very devoutly religious and still accept the theory of evolution, because it makes absolutely no statement as to what set the evolutionary processes in motion.

However, it is completely irrational to believe that the creation myth in the Bible is anything other than just that - a myth. You cannot be a person of logic and reason and believe that the Earth is 6,000 years old.
