I am going into the IB Program next year and I am trying to figure out my schedule. I want to get the IB Diploma as well as an AP Scholar’s diploma. I am wondering as to whether I can take the AP exam for certain subjects without having taken the class and have those scores count toward the AP Scholar Diploma.
For example, next year I will start taking IB Biology HL. It is a two year course and my guidance counselor said that the content is extremely similar to that of an AP Biology course, except that this IB class goes more in depth. At the conclusion of this IB Bio course, I plan on also taking the AP Bio Exam. If I get (for instance) a 4 on this AP exam, would this be able to count towards an AP diploma (even though I did not actually sit for the class)?

It counts for the diploma even though you didn’t take the class. Honestly though, an AP Scholar’s diploma is pretty worthless.

Gotcha

I’m aiming more for the AP National Scholar’s Diploma (that was just an example), but thanks!

I am unfamiliar with AP diplomas, but I am familiar with AP scholar designations (certificates you receive in the mail, issued by Collegeboard).

If I understand your question… you can qualify for the AP scholar designations without taking any AP courses, it is entirely dependent on your scores (and number of tests taken).

To be honest though, schools are not looking for AP scholar designations. They do want to see that if you took an AP course that you did take the AP exam and what your score is. AP scores are self-reported on your college applications, so they are not really used much in the admissions process. Taking the most rigorous course schedule is what they are looking for, so if AP is available, they will want to see that you took advantage of that opportunity and excelled.
