If you want to make a difference in the world...

If you donate your full college tuition for a private university or even state ($200,000 to 40,000) to help people in third world nations survive, you probably helped saved maybe 1000 to 200 people???

If you really want to make a difference and not be selfish would going to college allow you to save over 1000 people? MY POINT BEING many high school kids only volunteer or start clubs sponsoring third world nations to put on their college applications and may not continue this behavior after being admitted to their IVY colleges. Which economical class donates more of a percentage of their income to charities?

Its not quite so easy as that. More than 75% of the money you donate to charities doesn’t actually go to the people; it is incredibly difficult to manage/administer/transport materials to these countries, and difficult and dangerous to travel there; on the side of that, many “non profit” charities have executives making 6 figures. Some charities can do a world of good, but my expeirneces have shown me some of the truly terrible things that can go on in a charity organization. A better donation would perhaps to take part in the “micro loan” foundation which has recently been founded.

I, personally, will continue to volunteer after I am accepted to college. I intend to use what I get from my education (which will hopefully be ivy) to make a difference in the world. Money isn’t everything; without brains, money is useless.

you’ll probably make more than $200,000 coming from a good school. In addition, you can be a doctor and contribute to medical research at a school that is at the top of the field. you just have more opportunity to help coming from a better school.
