If you were an Admissions Officer...

Hello everyone,

I was wondering whether I can make the prompt for my UPenn supplementary essay the prompt for UChicago’s supplementary essay (after all, UChicago does gives you the option to write your own essay). It is not that I am lazy or anything, but I just feel that my UPenn supplementary essay reflects a lot about me.

If you were the admissions officer for UChicago, what would you think if I were to send you another school’s supplement?

I would think that either you made a mistake or you are not very interested in my school.

When they said “write your own essay” they did say write, not copy.

If possible, reshape the words in the prompt to sound very different, but make it so the essay content doesn’t change.

Jbian, I read some of your essays and know how well you write. Normally, I don’t like students recycling their essays as each college looks for different kind of students. With that said, UPenn and UoC admission officers do not share their candidates’ essays (unless they happened to be a husband and wife team. So, unless your essay clearly spells out that this essay is for UPenn, I can’t see how they could tell.

If you want, send the essay over to me and I can give you more harsh words again.

Each college can be expected to know the prompts used by other, similar colleges.
