If you're in... look for what's best fit, waitlisted focus on what the school wants

I have been PM by quite a few students… and here is my best advice. My oldest went to Deerfield for 4 years and loved it… he got in everywhere, went to revisit days and chose Deerfield (he liked the way there was so much outdoor space). My daughter got into a few schools, but fell in love with Taft. She got off the wait list, and has loved it ever since. My youngest just got an acceptance to AOF, as did my step son, and I couldn’t be happier. It’s a great fit for them, and AOF does some wonderful things for boys.

For those who have a choice- my point is there is a best fit for you, and I believe first and foremost each individual needs to find there own place where they will do their best. If you are super academic, or sports are a strength- the most competitive places will be fun- what is “pressure” to one, is a challenge to the next. Keep an open mind, don’t listen to friends… talk candidly about class placement, extra curriculars you want to try, and what dorm life is really like and if it will work for you. Look at the kids and ask yourself if they could be your friends.

For those wait listed- if you really believe a place is right for you, then go for it. If FA is a consideration, be candid with them. If you are on 4 wait lists, figure out the one that will best meet your needs. Then focus on what you will bring to that school community, and why you will be a valuable part. You may not hear for a while, perhaps long after the dead line but kids do change their minds and spots open up. If FA isn’t possible, and you need it at a place let go. But after you determine, whether it’s an option focus on your positives. If nothing else they will appreciate your interest if you handle it well.

Good luck, I hope that you all find your right fit- there are so many wonderful places out there but you must make them yours and make the most of them.

Nicely said!
