will you get in? Even with a couple C’s mixed in (maybe a D or two)

Excellent EC’s

3.1ish GPA…

will you get in? Even with a couple C’s mixed in (maybe a D or two)

Excellent EC’s

3.1ish GPA…

Probably depends on how difficult your courseload was–and how many Cs and Ds we are talking about. One D–you are probably okay, more than that–probably not. For Cs, I’d say no more than 5 during your first 3 years in high school (and obviously, you would therefore need at least 6 As to offset the 5 Cs, and still be above the 3.1 GPA).

You are really borderline–but with a 30 ACT score, being in the top 50% of your class, some APs (hopefully at least 3 year-long classes), and decent extracurricular activities, you would probably get in.

It’s like two trimesters really screwed everything up. 3rd trimester of 9th grade and 1st trimester of 11th, I got GPA’s below 2.5. Junior Year, I got a D in Honors Algebra 3 and in CIS Anatomy, one C, and then all A’s ad B’s. During this time I was juggling AP’s, cross country, musical, work, and a social life. Bad idea.

10th grade: All A’s and B’s, 3.5 GPAa for the year… about half honors classes

9th Grade, some D’s, a few C’s, and an F that will be made up this year and off of my transcript when I apply (Algebra 1, lol)

I’m only a junior right now though, and that first trimester just ended. My GPA is like 2.99 now. If I get all A’s for the rest of this year with AP English, AP Psychology, Honors Algebra 3, AP Chemistry, etc., do you think I’ll get in?
I think IU has become my first choice.

You have at least two, maybe 3, trimesters to get that GPA up. That will also help your class rank increase. IU does look at rank, perhaps more so than many schools. The ACT score is great. If I was an admissions officer my checklist for you would be something like this: Class Rank=at the lower end of admits, especially for OOS, so maybe. GPA=at the lower end of admits for OOS, so maybe. ACT=yes.

The essay for IU is optional, but I would definitley recommend you do that next year. I would also strongly recommend you apply early UNLESS your first semester Sr. year GPA is going to significantly raise your overall GPA. My children are also on trimesters so I know it usually ends in early November. I wouldn’t wait much past that first trimester to apply.

I’ll apply early for sure. I’ll try to get everything sent the first or second day possible.

Does anyone know when the application opens and they start reviewing them?

…i just got in with a 2.99 and a 28 ACT.

marylander: details please…public or private? class rank? rigor of curriculum? thank you, inadvance…

Congratulations marylander!

I guess i might have some hope then =]

My son, a current freshman, was admitted last year with a 3.15 GPA. He took several Honors classes and had, I believe a total of 3 C’s on his transcript. He applied in late October, and the last semester classes had not been taken. His acceptance letter noted that he was expected to keep up the good work. During the last semester he ended up with a D in Discrete Math, which was the only D he ever received. After IU received the “final” transcript from his High School, they sent him a letter reminding him that when he was accepted he was expected to keep up the good work. The letter stated that they understood that there could be legitimate reasons for the D, but they basically were putting him on notice that they would look at his grades his first year at IU. He has been doing pretty good so far, mid-terms were an A, two B+'s, one B and one C.

well i have vastly improved since 9th grade, which all schools look at. I also go to a private school with a great record of getting kids into college.

thank you marylander…
