Been lurking the forums for a while now, I have one question in regards to the completion of IGETC. I know it is favored to have them all completed by spring quarter before start of fall.

I’m a third year Bio major at UCR, and will have completed my math, gchem, bio, and physics requirement. However, I will only have 2 finished quarters of Ochem, and will have one more quarter to finish in the summer (2010).Even though this is still before the fall quarter ,I heard that you MUST have all IGETC requirements finished by spring quarter.

At the end of summer I will be senior standing, but in relation to fulfilling my major requirements I am like most sophomores finishing their lower div requirements.

Am I still capable of applying to Berkeley? I’m interested in a major there that is not offered at UCR’s institution.

I will have a total of 124 qtr or ~83 sem units completed by summer 2010. Which still puts me at junior standing. I juggled majors my first year. Is the finishing of my last quarter of ochem going to hinder my chances?

College of Letters and Science: A student who has accumulated more than 80 transferable semester units from a four-year institution is considered to have excess units and will not be admitted.

Is there any leeway to this if some courses don’t count to the major I am applying for? My intended major is for College of Letters and Science however, at my time here at UCR I took some courses that are not applicable to the major requirements.

The unit cap is for total units not just units required for your major so they will all count. They are pretty strict about it. Some people got rejected for being 1 or 2 units over the cap last year.
