If you’re given a school assignment with very ambiguous, poor instructions, what do you do? (assume it’s too late to ask questions to teachers). I have to take notes on two books about themes that show up in them and our teacher gave us a list of essential questions to think about while we take notes, but I feel like I’m missing the points of the books entirely. I feel really bad about it, but the instructions are kind of indirect (or maybe I’m just not following them correctly). What do you do?

if you have access to the teacher contact them… otherwise ask your smart friends what they did

Ah… just overachieve and then complain when you don’t get full credit

^No.

^^I tried asking some friends, but they’re confused as well.

I’m really concerned and upset/stressed about this… I guess I should just do the work as I perceive it and try not to worry about it.
I still feel like I’m not following directions or doing it well enough, though.

Don’t worry about completing the assignment correctly; worry about completing it in a manner that will earn you full credit. It doesn’t matter if you miss the points of the books. Are you telling your teacher what they want to hear?

^True, but I’m having trouble figuring out exactly what that is (or rather, how to do it) for this assignment.

I always have trouble with summer assignments. :(

I never do summer assignments…

Do what you know how to do.

Welcome to life…

A class I was taking this summer had an assignment (~10-15 page double-spaced size 12, 20% of the grade, due at the end of the course) for which we got verbal instructions for either the 2nd or 3rd week of the class, and got written instructions for which differed greatly from the verbal ones, 3 days before it was due.

Personally, I had already done mine and turned it in by the time he gave us the written instructions, and he told me mine was fine and that I didn’t need to change anything. I don’t know what everyone else did.
