Unfortunately she won’t qualify for EOP because that is a program only for documented students since it is funded by the state, and the UCs have the program also.

Also, if middsmith sincerely believes that Frank Rich is an example of someone who’s “far left,” then he or she is completely out of touch with political reality.

ucsd ucla dad:

Actually, since she is working at a fast food restaurant (probably with a phony SS#) she is having taxes withheld yet can’t get a refund at the end of the year because she is not filing a tax return. Thus, she is in a sense subsidizing, as does every CA taxpayer, her education. My point to the other poster was simply that she is not getting any Federal Aid for her education. The other poster seemed upset that we (legal taxpayers) were paying for UCLA through federal fin. aid, which is simply not the case.

MOMofknowitall: (I like that name)

As a part-time minimum-wage worker she’s probably paying next to nothing in taxes and as someone who’s probably only had a position like this for a couple of years at the most I doubt she’s anywhere near the point of subsidizing anyone. I was more directing this at her mother who’s been working here for a longer time. It’s possible she also is doing the illegal fake SS number thing but she might also be getting paid in cash. I undertsand your points on the Fed Aid but I wonder if the same method she uses to work at a mainstream fastfood place can also be used to get her aid - legally or not.

WA and CA both offer instate tuition to kids who graduated from their HSs or attended for a certain number of years, without asking citizenship, I believe

Are you serious? Your post is so incoherent as to make me wonder about your basic literacy.

hmom5:
You’ll be at a UC? If so, I hope you’ll find that they’re not so bad after all. Like anyplace, there’s room for improvement and there are challenges but all in all they seem pretty nice to me for large state universities. And - welcome back to California!

To paraphase the Bluth matriarch, they did not sneak into this country to be your friend.

Actually, a lot of employers don’t withhold tax if your paycheck is lower than a certain amount. I know that first hand.

For those who are in touch with political reality, please let me know who I should compare hmom to next time she shoot her typical far left agenda.

I believe you read it out of context. go back to hmom’s posts on impending troubles in the UCs and you’ll see how coherent my post was.

We have no idea about the cooking part. The article states that she has a 2.5 hour commute by bus each way. The “living with someone else” is being a bit generous. From the original article:

The article later says she goes to a test the next day wearing the same clothes she was wearing the day before, which implies that this was a one-time favor, not a permanent living situation. The young woman is spending 5 hours a day commuting to UCLA on LA public buses.

According to CNN an article in the LA Times today claims that illegal folks are costing the state around $5,000,000 or so. (I may have the numbers wrong but it is in the billions). Keep in mind that the state is issuing IOU’s for tax refunds and is in the worst drout in its history. Just an observation related to this.

There is about -0- chance that Ms. De la Cruz will be able to put her UCLA degree to any productive use in the state of California. She cannot legally work anywhere in the U.S.

Consolation, there is a bright side. Middsmith applied ED to Dartmouth last year. Had she not been “shut out” of the ivies she now has disdain for, she could be our sons’ classmate. On this site middsmith in addition to attacking posters, makes fun of gays and URMs. She may have brought the Dartmouth Review back to it’s glory days of outing gay students and harassing minority profs.

Bay, with Dems in the White House, I think there’s little chance we won’t see amnesty for illegals shortly.

Which, given the closer proximity of other colleges, says something (negative) about her good sense.

The conclusion of a recent Berkeley study:

Conclusion
The researchers note, “Our results indicate how important it is for California to find ways to enhance
higher education outcomes for its biggest and fastest growing ethnic group – Hispanics. The economic
future of California rises or falls depending on whether the State succeeds in improving college
completion rates amongst Hispanics.”
The study makes it clear that the return on investment is very positive for the state for every dollar
spent increasing the number of students attending college and completing degrees, the state gets
three dollars in net return on that investment. This snapshot provides sobering information
regarding the fastest growing population in California – Latinos. Given what we know about the positive
return on investment, the future workforce needs, and the growing number of young adults, this
information is a call to action. We must increase college participation and success amongst all our
young adults and identify strategies that ensure greater success in these areas for Latinos.

A link to the study:

http://www.collegecampaign.org/assets/docs/res-lib/ROI-Latino-Snapshot.pdf

^ sure, but that holds true for any college student in CA not just hispanics. And how about we spend the money on the people who will actually be able to yield that $3 return on every dollar spent, i.e. those who can legally get jobs in this state after they get their degrees.

^^^ We have a very long waiting list for people to come and work in CA RIGHT NOW. You don’t need to invest $1 and wait for god knows how long to get back that $3. Instead, for every illegal immigrant who essentially jumped the immigration line, get as many of those highly skilled professionals who have been in the queue already to come here. They work, and pay ridiculous amount of tax.

Well, now my disdain for Dartmouth just jumped a notch. Your 30 years of Wallt St. experience + years of education and you read that flawed study as the gospel truth say something about how unfit you are as a CA educator.

56: That study is irrelevant to this situation. It says:

Ms. de la Cruz is not native born, she is undocumented; Dems in the house or not, there are no immediate indications that she will be able to get a job in the U.S., that utilizes her UCLA degree in her lifetime.

Get straight Cs at UCLA or any other tippy top schools doesn’t help anybody getting jobs anywhere and going to CSLB is not for loosers only. I’m sorry UCLA did not help this person by admitting her into UCLA.

Why not? you’ll have your degree…
