im heavily considering apply to illinois as an engineering major and i just want to know how hard it is

Engineering at Illinois, or for that matter, anywhere else, is considered more difficult than most majors by most people. Kind of depends on your strengths, but even if you’re strong in math, physics, and analytical thinking in general, there’s a lot of time and work involved in undergraduate engineering, especially compared to liberal arts majors. The payoff, of course, is that successful graduates have employable skills and good job prospects.

If your question is engineering at Illinois vs. somewhere else, I wouldn’t say it’s harder in subject matter, but you might have more accomplished classmates than at some other schools, so your grades might be lower than at a less competitive engineering school.
