ILR/AEM essay question

For both my ILR and AEM (CALS) essays, I started my essays with a creative introduction about a particular business experience. In my AEM essay intro paragraph, I changed a few details, but the experience and wording is very similar to my ILR essay. Since I talk about my interest in business in both essays I thought this was okay, but now I’m having doubts. With the exception of this intro paragraph, both of my essays are very different.

Since Cornell is one of my top choices (ILR is my primary and AEM in CALS is my secondary choice), would it hurt my chances if I used very similar introduction for both essays? Do admissions counselors read both essays? I don’t want them to think I got lazy and used the same intro, I just liked the creative intro and wanted to use it in both…

I understand your concern, and I don’t think it’s a big deal if the body of the essay is completely different.

As a side note, though, I don’t know about putting ILR as your first choice and AEM as your second. AEM is very selective, and putting it second will probably do nothing for you. If ILR is your strong first choice, I would just put that as your primary and nothing on the secondary choice. That’s just my opinion, though.
