Hi! I was just accepted for transfer to Cornell ILR from the University of Maryland for next year. I’m also pre-med and will be finishing up my science classes next year. I’ve heard that the intro sciences at Cornell are brutal. How difficult are the ILR intro classes?

intro ILR classes depend on the professor…

lately i’ve been hearing boring stuff about HR and OB…labor history is always dry…labor law is lots of reading…

Why tranferring to ILR for pre-med?

Because right now I’m working toward premed, but I’m not sure if I’m going to stick with it. At maryland, i was working toward a bio major and an econ major. ILR sounded very interesting and like something that would be very practical in the work world. I figure that after a semester, if I really decide premed is what I want to do or I don’t like ILR, I could always internally transfer.

cadmiumred: i tried to reply to your PM but your PM box was full…so here’s what i have to say to both you and redsox ==>

ILR likes having a diverse student body…some go to law school others into business others into academia and a few even into med school…

in ILR one learns a lot about WORK in general…we always talk about nurses and other hospital workers oh and health insurance too! someone interested in the policy side of the medical world could very well study ILR and then go to med school to do this…

the ILR curriculum allows for soo many electives that the pre-med requirements wouldnt be too much of a hassle to incorporate…

OB and Labor History depends on room…students are assigned into these sections randomly…but it’s pretty much what is described in the curriculum summary page on the ILR website…

Some required courses, such as labor history and labor economics, will we more difficult than others.

I’m very excited to be taking more difficult classes because I’ve found the classes here at umd to be cake. But I’m just concerned that Cornell’s environment will be really cut throat. Is that true? Or are those just rumors?

Completely unfounded. Especially in ILR.

I choose Cornell over Penn because I felt it was FAR less cut throat. Just my opinion (and I got this from visits). By the way by Penn I mean Wharton so take it for what it’s worth.

there are some students in ILR who are competitive and just as cutthroat as wharton students…

but one can usually avoid those types and do his/her own thing…

what’s great about ILR vs. wharton or other places is that not everyone wants to be an ibanker…although maybe a lawyer…but even then law is diverse…

Resurgam knows this because he has studied at both institutions.

i thought i knew that because they’ve ■■■■■■■ all over this place? :(
