i'm a brunette... shouldn't that count as a minority?

What is your unweighted GPA?

just calculated it… i think it’s about a 3.82. i’m expecting my GPA to go up a bit after this semester though.

Hard to say. My GPA was lower but my test scores higher and I did not get in. Its possible, but not a sure thing. By no means do you have no chance though.

A lot depends of your choice of major. If it’s Cinema…not so much (but not impossible depending on other factors)…but it you’re applying to a “less desirable” major you certainly have a chance. What sets you apart from other young women? (Hint: that is what Admissions looks for in a candidate.)

To have a better chance, I might suggest studying up on the SAT and retaking to improve your math score if possible. Also, try to use this summer to do something meaningful to further your special interest, whether that is volunteer work, an internship or work–it’s best if it really shows you are pursuing your talents with passion.

Best of luck.

to be honest it is very heavily weighted on the essays. NO JOKE concentrate more time on your essay then studying for the ACT again. I would retake the SAT, and the good thing about USC is that take a combined SAT score which means they put together all of your best scores from math, writing, etc…I got a 29 on the ACT, and 2000 on the SAT’s and I got in for the 2007-2008 school year, i just finished my freshman year. My W GPA was 4.2 but unweighted was like a 3.8 or so in highschool. I did varsity tennis all 3 years and participated in clubs, won a few tennis awards, graduated with honors, volunteered a bit, but nothing too outstanding really. What really made me stand out was my essay, honestly I believe that was the reason I got in. My grades and scores were all on the average range for the previous years admitted students. My friends who had better “resumes” then I did didn’t even get accepted in several cases.
Make sure you write your essay about something unique, they want to know that they are letting in someone who will stand out!
hope that helps!
best of luck!

According to USC, the most important factors are school record, GPA, SAT, recs, and essays. ECs are the second tier, everything else is claimed to be a distant third tier.

Your SAT score is higher than mine was and your gpa is about the same as mine, and I got in (and early, at that). If I were you I would work on the other good stuff, like ec’s and especially your essays. I can attest to the fact that if you have other things to balance out a not-so-stellar SAT you still have an equal chance as everyone else. I say you have a great shot, good luck!

decent stats, by no means a sure shot, but by no means out of the question
bump up the sat’s and write awesome essays

i know this isnt really “important” but have fun with the quick writes ( the 1-5 word responses)
if they’re interesting and quirky, they will catch your reader’s attention and make them want to learn more

that said, they are not a way to make your app look significantly better, but they can make the readers pay closer attention which should always be a good thing

and if you make them laugh then they’re primed to read your stuff in a more favorable/forgiving mood
