im a Freshman that wants to go to UT but has a 3.0 GPA

Hi im a Freshman at an Early College High School and I want to go to UT - Austin for political science but I have a 3.0 GPA, Is it still possible for me to go to UT? (By the time I graduate I I will have an associates degree in arts aswell as a high school diploma)

The only way you could go to UT with a 3.0 would be either by being a recruited athlete or going the CAP route and proving yourself at the CAP school. It is unlikely that a 3.0 high school student would suddenly become a 3.8 college student.

to get into UT you need to be top 7% of your class. It’s unlikely with a 3.0. Going to an Early College High school is also a problem, because your second route would be to attend Austin CC to then transfer to UT with a high (3.7+) GPA.

Can I raise my GPA up to a 3.8 in my sophmore year?

That’s up to you, your abilities and the effort you put into it.

If you get 3.0 one year and 3.8 another year you have 3.4. If you have a 3.0 from three years of high school and have a 3.8 senior year you end up with about 3.2.
Note that if I were you I would NOT get the associate but rather I’d focus on choosing classes that prepare for your intended major as well as as many gen ed classes to increase your GPA as possible (even if they don’t count for the associate degree). This way you could still get an extra year completing requirements at a cc and thus would have a shot at increasing your gpa further.
Do you live in Texas?

Yes, I do live in Texas

Is there even the slightest chance I can get into UT - Austin or should I just give up

As a Texan, your only chance to get into UT is to be top 7-10% of your class.
If you were selected for early college high school you must be smart and diligent.
How did you end up with a 3.0? Did you take a curriculum that’s too challenging? Did you get a D in one class and do well in the others?
Why do you like UT?
If you still have two years, you may increase your class rank. Can you take a class summer session 2 to 'dilute ’ your freshman grades? What classes are you taking next semester?
