I'm a horrible student...

I’ve been given the speech of ‘not applying’ myself since freshmen year.
When I feel as if I’m managing to pull my weight, it’s false hope.

I’m at an arts high-school, and an art ‘major’ with a side fetish for english.

I’m now repeating two math classes.

Should I even hope/apply for anything better than community college?

Many In state public schools accept just about all types of stats. Their purpose is to educate, not to be selective.

If you are planning to apply to an art college, I don’t think they would really mind that you were bad at math. It’s difficult to tell how “bad” of a student you are without specific grades. However, its never a good sign to have to repeat two math classes. Remember that even those many on this forum are focused on getting into top selective colleges, most colleges accept over 70% of their applicants. Just try your best this upcoming year!

Yes, you probably can get into a 4-year college, but the question is do you have the self discipline to succeed in a 4-year college. Having that kind of self discipline means you’d get help from the professor or even a tutor if you were having difficulty in a class. Whether you would have that level of self discipline and motivation is a question that only you can answer.

It’s more than probably. It’s definite. State publics have students far far worse.

It matters what 4-year institution that you apply to. Various public and private institutions have different standards. Some – public and private – have low standards when it comes to grades and scores. Some have very high standards.

Ask your GC for help, and also check the web sites of colleges that are second (probably would be reaches for you) and third tier schools in the U.S. News college guide that you can get at many bookstores and newsstands.

It also would be good for you to consider whether you’d prefer to go to college or to art school.
