I'm a junior, and i have no volunteer hours. volunteer or take a class?

i have no volunteer hours…i go to the 2nd best school in the nation (oxford academy <– in cypress, California), im gonna have a 3.4 UC gpa by the end of this year, and i had an after school job since march. I have no other extra-curriculars, and am an inactive member in 1 club (GSA).
would it better if i got some volunteer hours, or if i took a class over summer (at a community college, to earn college credit)? i’d really rather take the class, but i don’t know how important the hours are…

also, this is assuming i apply to schools such as UCR (riverside), cal state san jose, cal state san francisco, and cal state long beach.

Why not both? The student I’m mentoring/tutoring has volunteered regularly throughout the year. You do not need to invest a huge amount of time. Perhaps put in 1-3 hours each week maybe on the weekends or whenever most convenient.

I’m doing both this summer! Im taking a physics summer course and I’m volunteering at the hospital.
