I’m going to be visiting Rutgers, the school of my choice, on 7/16 (obama is visiting rutgers on that day too! i think).

First off, I’m a community college student with a 3.7 gpa and 27 credits and im applying for the spring 2010 semester this fall (I will be taking 13 credits this fall aswell) A lot of people say I’m in. I doubt that. I’ve only been at a cc for a year and a half (i’m including the fall semester for the “half”) with a terribad high school record and SAT. 2.0~ish high school gpa (I think lower) with a 1500~ SAT.

Now, I really want to attend rutgers in the spring. I want to experience a true college experience sooner, while taking 4-year university level courses!

When visiting rutgers, is there anything I can do to improve my chances? Like visit an admission instructor there? What would I ask him? What would I say? Is it even worth it?!

In general, public universities make their decision based on applicants’ stats and state of residence. Demonstrated interest doesn’t matter.

Warning: If Obama will be visiting Rutgers when you will, get there early – hours early than you normally would because parking, security, etc. will be tight and floods of extra people will also head to the campus that day. Speaking from experience having seen Obama at U of Oregon.

If you’re in-state, you should be fine. Your community college record will matter more than your high school record. Double check whether you need to submit your SATs as a transfer student. If you have to write an essay focus on your new found academic maturity.
