I'm bored at college

Hey guys, I started on college on January, and I’m about to finish my first semester. I’m studying aeronautics engineering and I have good grades, but I’m bored at college. I don’t know, I feel like I wasn’t made for this. I get bored at class, studying is the same, I don’t know what to do. I thought I chose wrong, but then I start thinking on other careers and I don’t really find nothing better. What could it be? I’m getting depressed

Try working and studying at the same time and check which you like best. Are you sure you like the course you are studying?

We probably need more information. Are you taking a range of classes? If so, what classes are you taking?

Very often college starts with taking classes in several different possible majors. Then over time you focus in on one.

Also, very often college starts with relatively basic classes. Over time you move to more specialized classes, which you might find more interesting

Or, you could be suffering from depression. This is very common, and might be more common among very intelligent students. There should be people in student services who can help you with this.

Over all, it might take time to find a solution, but a solution should be possible to find.

–If you feel you are on a good career path it may be that you will have to get through school to achieve your goals. Also if you just started in January you are probably immersed in intro level classes. Things may become clearer once you get into classes that are more in your major.

–Look for ECs that interest you so you can take a break from studying. It can be healthy to get involved in activities, meet people etc.

–Seek out counseling services at your college (if you are done for the semester you can start in the fall) and let a professional help you talk through and sort out things.

–You also might want to talk to your academic advisor.

Are you bored because the work is too easy for you? Are you not interested in the subject matter? Or are you just generally uninterested in studying and learning?

Not really, I’ve always wanted to be a truck driver, but my parent don’t get it. They say I need to study, I just don’t want to.

I’m taking calculus, and other things like that. Isn’t easy, but isn’t impossible either, is just I’m not interested in learning those things. I know they’re important, just don’t think I like them. Thanks you for your support, your comment is very helpful!

, I’ll talk with a professional to see what happens. Thank you!

I am wondering if you would be happier with a career that doesn’t involve university. In the US (and every other country in the world except one barely), the majority of adults do NOT have a 4 year college degree. People find a lot of other jobs, some of which require significant skill and training.

How old are you?

@DJaraba Do you know any truck drivers? How familiar are you with the day to day work? Anyone you could ride with this summer? Local or long haul?

Me too, but I wouldn’t tell anyone I know because they’ll just call me lazy and say that I need to do something with my life. So I’m sticking to it I’m failing most of my classes right now (my parents don’t know) Going to see how long I can go. Maybe you can switch majors? Lots of people do.
