I'm confused by the EMT process in Georgia?!

Okay, so I’m going to Emory University in the fall. They have an on-campus EMS service and they offer free training to all Emory students (as long as they commit to volunteer on the truck for at least a year). I’m in EMT-Basic training now, and I wanted to continue on and start EMT-Intermediate training in the fall and I became estatic when I saw Emory offered it. There are a few problems though. Firstly, isn’t an EMT-I and an Advanced EMT the same thing? Georgia has like 5 different levels of EMS?! The program at Emory will let me sit in for the National Registry at the Intermediate level, but the scope of practice in GA is SOOO weird:

According to the scope of practice, the only skill above my EMT-B scope of practice would be to do more invasive suctioning and to start IV/IO’s.

My question is…if I’m getting this certification through the state of Georgia (which does not allow EMT-I’s and Advanced EMT’s to intubate), will I still learn how? Because when I come back to Texas, EMT-I’s are trained to intubate and if I take the NREMT for EMT-I I’m assuming intubation will be covered on the exam?

Thanks!

Bump. Anyone?

You should call Emory EMS up and ask them about their courses. Every state has their differences. But if they’re teaching a course that qualifies you to take the NREMT-I exam, then they have to teach the full skills set for that level set by the national registry.
