I'm curious, did anyone tour UWF or UNF? Thoughts?

When we were there, some maintenance guys were pressure cleaning the sidewalks by the ponds down by the dining hall. Maybe they spooked the ducks away, plus the midday heat may have had the ducks laying low.

Maybe UNF should consider changing their name from Ospreys to Ducks!

Have a comment on UWF. Visited the campus a couple of years ago when attended a swim meet. Absolutely gorgeous pool. One wall is clear glass, and you can see the pine trees as you swim. Awesome.

We drove through the campus. Liked it. It’s a good size. Would probably need a bike, at least, but there did seem to be a shuttle bus.

Some older looking dorms at one section, but found some nice, newer apartment looking dorms on another side of the campus.

In a somewhat hilly area, for our region, with nice view.

Found a nice boardwalk through a nature preserve that son and I enjoyed.

Baseball field and other sports fields on campus. Can’t remember a football field, but may be one that we missed.

I believe it was once a senior college back when I was in school, 30 years ago, because I considered going there for marine science, but I would have had to go to a community college first. Pensacola Junior College was a good junior college back then. So I was happy to hear it’s now a four year college.

For leisure time, go to Santa Rosa Island. Gorgeous beaches. White sand, clear water.

Were there during MLK weekend, and kids were surfing on the beach!

Nice public pier for fishing, public beach, as well as hotels and condos for the tourists, but the public beaches are very nice, so students can enjoy!

Great weather, friendly people. Would definitely check it out.

UWF also seemed very clean, not run down. We also thought it was extremely pretty there. I may go visit again this fall with another potential student.

The appearance should mean nothing. Flagler college in St. Augustine is beautiful, yet it’s not a good school.
I think UNF is a better quality school.

Well, to us appearance and cleanliness definitely mean alot. Although it certainly would not be the reason to enroll in a school, I’ll agree there. As far as Flagler, I have a daughter enrolled who LOVES it. It may not be ranked up there with schools like FSU, but it is a good fit for her and isn’t that what all this is really about?

^Generally, yes. It’s all about fit and goals. One could graduate from Flagler and become the world’s greatest rocket scientist…or not. Motivation is key.

For me, I like public universities as they offer great value at low cost to any citizen and usually are not as political as private schools.

Hmm, UWF intrigues me. I just toured FGCU yesterday and am now more in tune to visiting schools again. Does UWF have decent academics (I’m not really going for comparisons here)? I would probably consider the honors college as a back up.

I understand that the business major is a biggie at UWF and also archeology/anthropology. I toured FGCU as well. I asked some of the students working in the bookstore what they thought of their school, and their reply was “we call it Ft. Misery.” I was not impressed by anything I saw there. As a personal opinion, between FAU, UNF, FGCU and UWF…UWF was our favorite. Liked UCF way more than USF. FSU more than UF.

Yeah, and as I mentioned, UWF is probably going to be the schools that turns into a more residential and traditional college maybe? So far a lot of people have said great things about it.

If I remember correctly, the honors dorm(s) at UWF are fantastic and the non-honors not so much. The honors were suite-style while the non-honors were extremely small rooms (not even enough room for 2 people to get by each other), large closet that looked like it could have been made into an extra bedroom! Community-style bathrooms which we never got to see. Our tour guide spent more time showing us the honors dorm and only a brief look at the others. Probably for good reason. S doesn’t want to go there unless he can get into honors!!! Does anyone have any more info on the non-honors dorms??

[UWF again on list of top Southeast schools | pnj.com | Pensacola News Journal](http://www.pnj.com/article/20090803/NEWS01/908030315) Some info on UWF

hey i graduated from UWF and have to say it is a great school. no it doesn’t have the prestige and reputation of UF, FSU etc, but it is a far better undergraduate institution, i never had a class with more then 50 people in it and the teachers really care about you.

as for “dorms” we call them residence halls (i was an RA while living there for 3 years)
there are Argo, Pace, Martin which are identical suite style rooms with private bathrooms
the crappy dorm was southside but they are phasing those out
there are two apartments Village East and Village West, with traditional apartment layouts, kitchens etc.

two new buildings are being opened in 2010 and 2011 : Heritage Hall and President’s Hall, both feature a unique community style floor plan with private suite style rooms and kitchens on every hall, they are absolutely the nicest buildings on campus.

uwf is great, i could sit and type more but i’m actually working on a paper for my graduate course at University of Michigan, which i was accepted to after my time at UWF
