<p>So it finally stopped snowing here near Boston. A foot-plus of lovely white stuff, with just a hint of rain at the end so it can freeze over and cause a driving hazard.</p>
<p>But we’re leaving here Monday to drive to S.Carolina, where I read it will be 70 and showers on Wed & Thurs??? I’ve got to re-pack! I have no warm-weather clothes available, they’re all packed away! Honestly, after 48 hours of snow and looking at a high tomorrow of 20, I’m finding 70 to be hard to fathom.</p>
<p>Turned cold here in Texas (after 80 Friday, after freezing all day on Wednesday, after warm and humid… well, you get the idea) but no snow or ice to slow down the shoppers. It’s been madly crowded at our local mall. I don’t know if they are all buying - I’m done and not in there, but things look good for the merchants here. We never had the boom the rest of the country did so aren’t suffering quite as badly now. Kind of reminds me of the bad parts of the '80’s but without the 14% interest rate on mortgages…</p>

<p>Lots of snow here. I LOVE it. I hope we get more and a white xmas. Best winter, ever.</p>
<p>All you need for a white Christmas is snow on the 24th, you do not need several snowfalls since Dec 1st for over 2 feet of snow on the ground. And, for snow all you need is below freezing temperatures, not below zero. At least we escaped the freezing rain/ice- bare concrete under all of that white stuff! Last year set records in many places around here, this year is ahead of last year. Mantra- April is coming. Too much of a good thing.</p>
<p>Snowed all day here in Vancouver, Canada, supposedly a rarity in this city. Bleh. Must have shoveled 7 inches of snow. I am cooped up all day, instead of out there sight seeing. At least the kids went skiing.</p>
<p>Lots more snow all day today, very dry & powdery, so the fun stuff; plus unlike the storms of 2006 we have kept our power on, it’s much more fun with heat</p>
<p>I’m in Vancouver too. The snow and low temps are incredible right now… Rare for here, never seen anything like it. We typically hover at worst near freezing, get a day or two of wet snow, usually followed quickly by rain. So this is something else entirely. Sucks if you are just visiting though!</p>
<p>Even the big freeze of 1990 was not as bad as the snowstorms that hit Seattle this winter. The airport is closed. The roads are a mess. Many gas stations are out of gas. There is a report of an ice rink roof collapse, thank goodness no one was hurt! I’m waiting for our power to go out any minute now. That’s too much of a white Christmas for me.</p>
<p>^ Wow, sounds like another harsh winter for you down there. Sorry to hear this. What was it - two years ago?- with the windstorms.</p>
<p>I sure hope D#1 will be able to come home for xmas- I can’t imagine ( she works in education) that schools are going to be open in Portland this week.
She was scheduled to come up on the 23rd- by train.
We will see.

luckily my 94 yr old neighbor who stlll lives on her own ( and drives) went to stay with family
I beat all the snow off her shrybs though, she would be sad if her rhodies were damaged.

<p>Home in Southern California for the holidays, and we -do- have snow. One of the perqs of living in the mountains. :)</p>
<p>3 feet last week, and another 4-8 inches due tonight, with snow in the forecast for the rest of the week. So glad I came home just in time to be put on shovel duty!</p>

<p>We did not lose power, at least not yet, that’s the good news. The bad news is that H dropped me off at work since he needed the car to take D to the doctor’s office, and I need to walk 3 miles to the nearest bus stop since the transfer bus route is not operating today (I know, it will be all uphill and in knee-deep snow :)). I would normally consider this a good exercise, but the sidewalks are very slippery. However, the snow-covered trees and buildings are GORGEOUS.</p>
<p>Just a dusting of snow in the Pittsburgh area. I grew up in the Lake Erie snow belt, and find the amount of snow we get here in the winter pitiful. I can’t recall a decent snowfall in at least 15 years.</p>
<p>Like winter, LOVE snow. But hate the rock-hard ice that’s covering every parking lot and sidewalk at the moment.</p>
<p>no snow but plenty of ice - solid ice! Poor dog can’t find a place to go! I had to dig a spot for him…now he’s gotta get dizzy spinning in circles trying to “go”!!</p>
<p>The ice is HORRIBLE!! Our neighborhood roads look like a tobaggon run! - solid, inches thick, packed ice!!! We zigzag around our neighborhood trying to get to better roads than the normally quick and easy way.</p>
<p>We’ve got both snow and ice. I had to measure a house today. Luckily it wasn’t nearly as windy this afternoon as it had been this morning, though it was still a bit chilly. Grateful to have a new job however!</p>
