I always thought they’d be fun, but scooters just seemed too frivolous for a serious father raising children. So now that I’ll be a dad at a distance, I checked them out and found a great deal on the one I liked, though it was 220 miles away. It was right on the way home after a family trip so I had the family drop me off, I bought the scooter, and I rode the last 220 miles. It’s even more fun than I’d anticipated. I miss the kids, but empty nesting could be fun if GaMom and I can go after more of the items on the bucket list. I think I’ll look on eBay for a leather jacket - do they come in yellow?

Where is that darn “like” button?

Smiling. :). And I bet you were all 220 miles.

Are you related to my DH–he is looking at buying scooters too…we have a year before the last ones fly the coop though.

Yellow jacket? Are we trying to convey The Bride in Kill Bill?

Have fun… and please wear your helmet ;)

No one would mistake me for Uma Thurman. But yes - that’s the exact shade of yellow. :)

Congratulations, gadad! Echoing Colorado_mom - always wear your helmet.
H plans to buy a bright yellow Jeep Wrangler when we’re done paying tuition. Hope he can still climb in! ;)

Did you buy the original (Vespa)? my neighbor used to be the local dealer and he often brought those home… There are more modern interpretations but the original Vespa was awesome… Especially the larger, more powerful ones…

Post 1

:)

yellow jacket…noooooo!

thought you were going to have a Ga bulldawg!!!

What a fun thing to do! Is GaMom thinking about getting one too? That would be fun scootering around town. I have to say, though, I’m not too sure about the canary jacket…

Just the title of this thread made me smile when I read it. Wear a good helmet! :)

Why wait? I have been rollerblading and doing all other things when kid was at home. I would drop her off at her practices and do whatever I wished to do,…all after full time job. So, those who are not empty nesters, do not wait.
However, when kid was gone, it was not enough for me, so I added another hobby that I love. So, you can do whatever you wish and add more when they are gone, if you wish, or increase your couch potato time, all in a cards…Enjoy them while they are at home though…

Enjoy every minute! What color is the helmet?

We are also on the brink of empty-nesterdom. We are thinking about a very, very small boat. Maybe a row boat. Or a canoe. Or a kayak.

The scooter sounds fab.

gadad - I will be empty nest in 3 weeks and also bought a scooter! Mine would not be safe to drive 200+ miles as it is only a 49cc (Yamaha Zuma in blue) and maxes out at about 45 mph. I purchased it to zoom around the road course properties where my husband participates in road course car racing (his empty nest activity). I don’t plan to take it out on the public roads often due to the risk of getting mowed over by someone texting while driving.

Be safe and enjoy!

I love it.

My kids are classical musicians and don’t really see the virtues in loud screeching bone crunching rock and roll.

I got another year, but I’m looking forward to turning my guitar amp back up to 11!

My visualization of gadad riding down the highway in a bright yellow jacket is priceless…

I feel like goggles are in order to add to the decor…

Mom2010 - Hey, I got a Zuma too - the 125 cc model, so it hits 55-60. Great scooters! Kayaks are fun as well as terrific exercise. And the yellow leather is out - I got a really nice red padded jacket on eBay for 99 cents (+ $20 shipping).
