I'm grading your SAT essays

In order to gain more perspective on the SAT essay, I’m practicing from the grader’s point of view.
Post your essays and I’ll give you a grade from 1 to 6 based on the CollegeBoard’s SAT Essay Scoring Guide.

hmmmm…really? Write your own essay and have it edited by your teacher. Don’t think that mimicking the work of others is a great idea. Sorry, but it sounds kind of fishy, actually.

Many SAT tutors teach students to use a formula, and most people’s formulas are largely the same. For SAT, mimicking others is already the norm because everyone wants a higher score.

In any case, many are already posting their practice essays to be graded in the SAT Prep forum. The OP is just trying to consolidate it, although I believe the mods don’t allow that.

I’ll give the kid a break and assume he/she isn’t trying to pilfer the intellectual property of others. But don’t assume there aren’t kids out there looking to copy an essay (or parts of an essay).

There’s no way I’d recommend my kid share his/her work with strangers. Best to stick to those who you know and trust.

If you feel knowledgeable enough to grade other’s essays, you probably don’t need to gain more perspective. If you really want to read sample SAT essays and practice grading them, though, just Google “sample SAT essays.” There are quite a few of them available online.

Copy an essay? This is the SAT not the college application. Do you think he’s going to memorize an essay for every topic that might come up on the SAT?

In preparation for my SAT, I graded essays from CC. Seeing other peoples mistakes or strengths made me more aware of my own. For this reason, many tutors are suggesting students grade essays for practice. Since there is quite a few people on CC who want their essays graded, where best to grade essays?

Missed that it was the SAT forum. Getting old.

My comment stands…don’t put your stuff out there for others to read/see, if you don’t want it borrowed and used. There are people who CAN memorize large chunks of material and pilfer intellectual property. Likely? Probably not. But, still, there are better ways to practice and improve your writing than scoring others’ work.

Just the opinion of an old coot, so take it for what you will.
