I'm probably going to regret asking this, but...

SSRIs and alcohol will intensify the effects of the alcohol, potentially in a big way. So you’d probably be a lightweight, but it’s also not likely to actually hurt you if you’re smart about how much you consume.

Most doctors will tell you not to drink at all on most psych meds, which is unfortunate because while some actually do have dangerous interactions, others just lower your tolerance, and not distinguishing is a stupid CYA maneuver.

Oh, and another thing that comes to mind is that SSRIs aren’t really an instant-effect type of med. You won’t get much impact if you’re just taking it the day of your job interview, since you usually need to titrate up to actually benefit.

I’m still learning how to drive. That would have been a nice idea though.

I’m taking 100 mg Zoloft and .25 Risperdal. I was just wondering because I didn’t want to feel like the odd one out. It’s just that I’ve heard about people taking meds and still do just fine with alcohol.
I tried to call the doctor, but he didn’t pick up the phone. Oh well, no drinking for me.

Edit: Nevermind, saw you answered it.

Surprisingly there was little drinking except for this guy we didn’t know who passed out then stumbled on the sidewalk, almost throwing up lol.
Drinking was a non-issue. I didn’t drink at all.

wait… but you’re taking the meds in the day time and drinking at night right? wouldn’t the meds be less effective by then? is there any possible way you could be stable w/o the meds? (sorry if this seems insensitive, but i don’t have any experience in taking anti-depressants). or try rescheduling the interview?

^ SSRIs don’t work that way; you have to be careful what you ingest even a month after you’re off of them because their effects are much longer than a few hours.

i hear there’s fake beer ;)

What’s “normal?” If you were tested and told that you were allergic to alcohol, would you still drink because it’s “normal?”

Is unprotected sex “normal” before or after you get pregnant or contract an STD?

Welcome to adulthood, where hard choices are “normal.”

Love,

Dinmor

When I feel the “need to drink” but am not in a situation where I can, ie, I’m driving, a big job the next day, or pregnant, so I would insert, taking medication, here, I have an O’Douls, Sharps, Coors Cutter, or the Saint Pauli NA beer. I get the mental effect of having a drink, without the toxicity. Watching a good baseball game also helps.
