I'm Sick with Worry-Please help.

This is not fake, nor am I a ■■■■■. I hope this is not inappropriate for here, but this forum has alot of wise parents, so I need some advice.

In my right breast, I feel a lump. It feels like a big lump of flesh in my breast. The thing is, it really hurts. Only to the touch, but still. I’ve done my research, and they say breast cancer happens to women over 50, 2 out of 3 times. It just started hurting this morning, but it was smaller than it is now. My mother told me that cancerous lumps usually don’t hurt, but I don’t know how true this is.

Any advice is truly appreciated.

Your mom is right, but obviously, get yourself to a doctor and don’t ignore it.

You don’t say how old you are. It could just be some kind of infection. Call your doctor’s office or go to the clinic on campus (if you are a student) for an appointment first thing tomorrow morning. They can deal with that much more effectively than we can. Good luck, I hope it is something minor.

Could be a cyst. Nothing you can do now, so think of something else. Tomorrow you’ll call the doctor. GL

tofu-
A doctor should see this. It could be any number of things, but you need to find out for your physical and emotional well being.

battlo might have meant an urgent care facility or outpatient clinic? This is not an emergency room type of thing.

Positive thinking is always a good thing. Given a choice between expecting the worst and expecting the best - expect the best. Chances are it is not cancer for the reasons your mom and others have said.

Go to the doctor asap. You want to deal with this immediately because, even though it is likely something less dire than your worry, you want to stop that worrying asap. Expect good news from your doctor visit and much relief.

Same thing happened to me a while back. It scared the you know what out of me. My primary care physician saw me within two days. She gave me the script for a mammo followed immediately by a breast sonogram. It ended up being a fluid filled cyst. I had it aspirated with a needle. The fluid was sent to the lab for review. Eveything ended up fine.

Call the doctor tomorrow. He/she will probably send you for a mammo and sonogram. Take a breath and understand that benign breast cysts are relatively common. However, you need to check ASAP via testing to diagnose the lump.

PS-- don’t fear the needle aspiration. It isn’t half as bad as you imagine it to be. I was back in my car driving home within 15 minutes— from start to finish of the procedure.

Please see the doctor immediately, tofu, but know it could be something so simple as a fibroid cyst or a benign tumor. When I was 22, I found a lump in my breast when showering. I was very scared. I was in my last year of college, so I went home and saw the doctor who set me up with a surgeon. From the time of the find to the time of my surgery (~one month), it had grown from the size of a pea to the size of a golf ball. Mine was a simple fibroid tumor. It is so very important for everyone to do a monthly breast check, and this is a good reminder of that. Let us know what you find out, please. Thinking of you!

Oh honey, of course you are worried. A lot of us have been in your shoes and know well your worry. Try to take a deep breath, call your doctor, and know that in all likelihood this will not be the worst case senario you may be imagining. Hugs, lots of hugs to you.

Cancerous lumps can hurt but they do not generally grow noticeably larger from morning to evening. It could be an infection either in the mammary glands or more likely in a lymph node. It can also be a cyst. Yes, you should call you doctor in the morning and have it checked out. Try not to stress, it won’t help. I hope your doc can see you tomorrow to give you more information and hopefully good news.
I am a breast cancer survivor and a nurse but I also had some cysts that ended up being nothing when I was younger.

If it hurts today, try putting a hot compress on it. This is an old-fashioned treatment for mastitis, and may ease the pain. To make the hot compress, dampen a dishtowel, and microwave it to get it hot. If it is too hot to pick up, let it cool down a bit before applying over the painful area. You don’t want to burn yourself, you just want to get more heat in that area. You can leave it on until it cools, and then reheat and reapply. Whatever general painkiller you normally use (aspiring, acetaminophen, ibuprofen, etc.) might help too.

And of course, go see the doctor tomorrow!

Thank you all so much. I’m going to see a doctor right away. I’m only 14, but I’m still going to check. It makes more sense to know that it’s most likely a fluid-filled cyst.

I had something similar. It was an infection. I went to the doctor and was given a round of antibiotic pills (and sent for a mammogram to be sure it wasn’t something else) and it cleared up within days. Hopefully this will be as simple for you.

Just a point of information: I support you in your need to see a doctor for what will probably be a stressful appointment that will end just fine. I think that you are wise, far beyond your years in not ignoring a health question. There is an old wives tale that says breast cancer doesn’t hurt. It can.

BUT I think that tomorrow you will know that you are fine. The sun will be brighter and the day just a bit more special because you will have a new appreciation for your health.

Take heart, too, in the knowledge that breast cancer at age 14 is extremely unlikely. Try not to freak out (easily said, I know). You’ll know for sure what you’re dealing with very soon, and then you’ll sigh with relief and wonder what’s for supper.:)

Very unlikely that you have anything serious. It could be a cyst, an infection or a swollen gland. The doctor does need to see it, though in case you need an antibiotic. A friend of mine has a daughter who got cellulitis(an infection in the skin) in her breast and it was described just like you described your problem. The antibiotic cleared it right up. Let us know how you are tomorrow.

I know you are very young, but I wanted to let you know that caffeine has a chemical in it that is known to irritate and inflame breast tissue.
You may be sensitive to caffeine, so reduce or eliminate it: coffee, tea, chocolate, energy drinks.
Take care! Have a doctor check it out ASAP. I have a feeling you will get an A-ok, but let us know.

Cancerous lumps don’t hurt. I should know because I’m paranoid about getting breast cancer since it runs in my family.
Honestly, if you’re still at a young age, it prolly means they’re growing. Mine hurt very badly for a few months because they were growing, but now they’ve stopped hurting.
And keep in mind that all breasts have lumps, but the cancerous ones are generally harder to the touch.

Sweetie, bless your heart, I’m so glad you posted here rather than worry in silence all night.

I have never heard of a case where a cancerous lump grew noticeably over the course of a day. You almost certainly have some kind of infection/inflammation – something that can easily be treated with a combination of draining and drugs. Or if it’s a cyst, they might remove it (no big deal). For tonight, a hot washcloth might make you a little more comfortable.

Big ol’ mom-hug coming your way!

ETA – Please come back tomorrow and post the good news. :)
