I'm still waiting for that recession

Some economists are already calling it nearly over–before it began. Got to love economists–just don’t listen to them. Yes we may still have one but they really oversold this one so far. So far it’s just a banana.

I’m really happy for you, that you are not in the class of people affected by the loss of a job, by house depreciation just as they are trying to sell, or by higher prices for food, gas, and heating oil.

I know many people who are.

i dont… :p

Me for one. Husband out of work for 9 months. My own business(industrial distribution) down 30%.
And the tuition bills, food bills, energy bills, you name it…just keep increasing.

Still doesn’t negate the OP’s post, or the recession myth.

Recession or not, I still dislike $4.55 diesel for my pickup with the gun rack.

I’ve got to agree that I haven’t really felt the effects of a recession, (knock on wood) other than high food and gas prices, and I keep looking for signs that friends and neighbors are in dire straits but don’t see it. Perhaps there is a delay - maybe people are just barely holding on to the edge of the cliff and we haven’t seen them drop yet. I hope not.

I don’t think it’s come yet. Oil prices are gonna be putting on the brakes to our economy very soon.

Come on over to my neck of the woods. I couldn’t tell you whether or not we’re experiencing what would be technically called a recession in these parts, but it sure seems like one. Good for those of you who don’t see any changes in their lives or the lives of those around you. That doesn’t change the fact that many, many people in this country are experiencing difficulties. Jobs are being eliminated or sent elsewhere, wages are being “adjusted” (cut in half, to be blunt), new jobs are difficult to find (and those you can find pay $7 or $8 an hour), businesses are closing left & right, homes are in foreclosure in every neighborhood, public services are being cut due to loss of tax revenue to support them, etc., etc. My H has a good job, but he has taken on the workload of several employees who were eliminated (without any extra pay & with a cut in benefits/increase in copays). I have been actively looking for full time employment for over a year. I finally have an interview, and the job pays what I made 19 years ago.

Again, good for you if you haven’t felt the pinch. It doesn’t change reality for the rest of us, though.

Michigan maybe?

You guessed it!

price of gal of gas $3.79+
Price of 1/2 gal of milk $3.89

( I had to come in- it is too hot!)

People can be in trouble without the economy being in a recession. Recession is a defined economic term, and unfortunately, as with many other precisely defined economic terms is bandied about and stretched to cover things it really doesn’t/shouldn’t, by people who aren’t really aware of what it means.

Wow. I live in an upscale suburb, and here it’s $1.99. $3.89 is when you buy the organic stuff at Whole Foods…

Paid $1.89 at Safeway today for 2%. Gas was $4.00 for regular.
