I'm thinking of dropping a class, would my AP credit help me stay afloat the 60 credit requirement?

Okay, here’s my situation. I’ve been admitted to UCR’s BizEcon program and I’m currently waiting to hear back from SB and Davis.

As of the Fall/Winter 2013 semester, I have 49 credits earned at my CCC (but only 45 of which are UC transferrable). Currently, I’m enrolled in 18 credits worth of classes and I’m totally in over my head on this 5 credit Calc 2 course i’m in, and I’m thinking about withdrawing from the class with a “W”.

So if I withdrew from Calc 2 I’d end up with 58 credits at the end of this Spring semester, which is not good. However, I have enough AP credits that would surely put me over 60 credits.

So my question is, would it be safe for me to drop that calc class and use my AP credits to put me over 60? I realize that dropping this course could lead to some issues with prerequisites, but that’s another matter I’ll deal with.

Yes, since AP credits are transferable they will count towards your 60.

@Ragnarok365

That’s great news, so how do I go about this? Do I talk to my CC counselors? Or do I go and call each school I get accepted into and tell them about my AP credits and how I intend to use them? I indicated on my application that I do have AP scores that are good enough for credit, but as far as I know they haven’t been granted credits yet

@CaSnowplow The UC’s will automatically assume to give you credit and if you are admitted, you just need to submit an AP score report to the UC school to verify your scores.

You’re totally good :slight_smile: don’t worry

Thank you so much, guys. I’m calling up the UCs and my OOS choices tomorrow.

A “W” won’t affect me too badly, right?
