I'm torn between these two careers!

I would love to be a financial advisor for wealthy people and eventually become wealthy myself. But at the same time I want to become a real estate broker. What are the pros and cons for both these jobs and what career paths are the best for them? Also any info on which I should choose we be very helpful!

Sure, all financial advisors would love to have wealthy clients. What makes u think it’s so easy to convince random wealthy people to let u handle their money? Ditto for people w expensive houses to give you the listing. Both careers are really, really competitive fields and take a long time to build a big enough networking base to make you worth it for rich people to contract with you-- it doesn’t just happen after graduation. Most people in these fields don’t get rich.

I know that I have a lot of family in financial advising so I have connections there as well as in real estate. I’m not asking if they’re competitive or how competitive, I’m asking which one would be the better choice

Better choice for WHAT??? Work-life balance? Job security? Personal security? Earnings? Personal fulfillment? Geographic flexibility?

If you have so darn many family members in the business as connections, then wouldn’t it make more sense to ask them about their first-hand experiences?

Connections are great for getting a foot in the door.

But they can’t stop that door from slamming, hard, onto that foot.

Which career is better? The answer is the old standby: it depends on a million variables. Like which you’ll enjoy more. How good you are at what you do. Where you end up working and what sort of work ethic you bring there with you. What sort of people you end up working for and with. The economy. The weather-- ask people in coastal SC this week how worried they’ve been about their beachfront properties-- and their far-from-beachfront properties as well. (And don’t even consider those poor people with properties in the Bahamas.)

If you ask me real estate is a very competitive industry yet a challenging one and base from how you started your thread I believe you’re up for that kind of challenge.
