My activities essay is about producing videos. I’m really passionate about video production and all, and I would like to continue exploring this interest in college by pursuing it as a minor. But the thing is, it’s not a must. I mean, I would much rather go to a school with a strong biology curriculum and no film minor than go to a school that has a so-so biology curriculum and a film minor. Biology is my intended major.
My dream school is Brown…But Brown doesn’t have a strong film/video curriculum, and the same goes for some of the other schools I’m applying to. If I express my passion for video production in my activities essay when the school doesn’t have a strong film/video curriculum, would it be bad? :(

I believe the purpose of the activities essay is to reflect something you are passionate about now, in high school. It’s okay if you end up not continuing with it. At least, that’s my impression of its purpose.

Please briefly elaborate on one of your extracurricular activities or work experiences- IMO, it’s not to prove out a passion or life direction. It’s more a peek at how you assess your experiences, what you choose and how you explain. It’s a very small part of the review. Your interest in videos isn’t a problem. Have fun with it.

I agree with both answers. Go with the essay on videos. If that’s what your passionate about, the admissions staff at Brown will see that. Who knows, you might start up a video club at Brown? That would show them that you’ll add something of importance and value to the campus!
