Imemories or Dropbox or Vimeo or? For archiving old home movies and photos in the cloud

I seem to recall a thread on this topic, but I can’t find it. Has anybody moved all their old videotapes and DVDs and photos to the cloud for “forever” storage? What’s the best hosting service for this? I’m looking for a solution that keeps our memories private (i.e. not YouTube), yet can be easily accessed by family members (given a password) from their phones and computers for years to come (so no fly by nights-something with a stable presence).

Can’t you create a private YouTube channel? I know some people that like VimeoPro which is a paid service with private channels too.

For very old photos that are pre-digital era, I use a site/phone app called Heirloom. If you have a fairly new phone, your phone camera is as good as the definition of most old photos. The app uses your phone camera as a scanner and as long as the edges of each photo are clear (photos on a white surface) the app automatically crops the photo. You can also crop it yourself. The app allows you to tag each photo with quite a bit of information - dates, names, locations, etc. The information follows the photo wherever you place the photo on the site. All photos are in “moments”, but you can also put each photo in multiple albums. My goal is to put all our pre-digital photos on this site, where all of our family members can have access.

More recent photos and videos I am storing on Google Photo and Dropbox.

I’m not sure what I’m going to do with the older videos that are on CDs and tape.

All of these sites have free storage for average photos. You can pay if you are looking for storage that offers higher definition.
