immigrant= international student?

My cousin is an immigrant applying to Harvard this year. He’s been in Texas for 4 years and have been taking Pre AP classes. . My question is,

 1. Should he take the TOELF? (note that he’s been taking AP classes and the highest grade holder, his teachers were all amazed. But he’s from a low performing school and there he’s considered a genius)
 2. Can he major in Linguistic? He speaks English with an accent, though not heavy, but people was suprised at how much English he knew and how fluently he can speak. He didn’t even take any ESL class in his high school career. Will the decision prevent him from being admitted? And what do people majoring in Linguistic do after they graduate?

pump… anyone help me please

depending on his SAT CR and W, ACT E and R scores, and any english grades he’s gotten, he may or may not want to. some schools require that any person whose first language isn’t english take the TOEFL.

is he a US national (green card holder?)

he can major in whatever he wants.

He is a green card holder.
So if his SAT is stellar enough, he wouldn’t have to take the Toefl, maybe?
But will his English accent prevent him from majoring?

of course his accent won’t keep him out of linguistics :)

his SAT may or may not exempt him from the TOEFL. he should check with the schools he’s applying to.

But will his English accent prevent him from majoring?

This. Haha!

don’t know why reptil’s laughing

if he’s a green card holder, then he’s not an international student, and shouldn’t have to take the TOEFL.
