Imp - CMU or NJIT or FDU

Hi!
I am an international student accepted at:
FDU (With a large scholarship - $17000/yr)
NJIT (With a sizable scholarship - $8000/yr)
CMU (Haven’t heard about any aid, and I am not very optimistic about it also).

My main interest is Electrical and Computer Engineering (Was accepted at ECE in CMU). Which place do you recommend? Is there a major difference in the programs offered at places like NJIT and FDU compared to CMU? What about if I want to get into a good graduate school?

Problem is, being an international, I would prefer a homely environment, and I have close family members in New Jersey.

So whats your take on this?

Please respond!!

This is probably not what you want to hear, but since you asked…

I’m a CMU parent, from NJ. Regarding FDU—that’s a great scholarship but there’s no comparing FDU and CMU; it’s a real stretch of the imagination. FDU is fine I’m sure but the people who attend are average (not trying to be mean or snobby but I know lots of FDU students); it’s just not even remotely close to the educational environment you’ll find at a school like CMU.

NJIT is a bit better academically, still not close to CMU but if you want an engineering degree it’ll get you one. In North Jersey I would have preferred Stevens or Rutgers New Brunswick for engineering. One big problem with NJIT—> the location is not good. Actually it’s awful. I take frequent CE courses at UMDNJ, a few blocks away in Newark. Newark is downright dangerous. On the plus side NYC (which is great!) is a half hour, at most, train ride away.

Thank you very much!

I have admission into Rutgers School of Engineering (Honors), do you think Rutgers compares well to CMU?

I’m a parent in NJ also and my DD is looking at engineering schools. I agree with everything 2331 said.

Rutgers Engineering is a MUCH better choice than NJIT or FDU. They have a very good engineering program. Not as prestigious as CMU, but still very good. Stevens is also quite good and has a great location in Hoboken, right outside Manhattan.
