How much does it help to interview, and vice versa, how much does it hurt you to not interview at top 20 schools and top public schools?

It depends on the school. Some schools recommend them and some say they have no impact (USC for example). I don’t think most public schools do interviews-UCLA had like 100,000 applications in 2016-no way are they interviewing all of the applicants or even most. But if a school offers you an interview, you should take it as it shows demonstrated interest.
I havent had any schools specifically contact me for an interview yet for my early schools. is this a bad sign? @Emsmom1
No- I just remember someone on CC recently was asking if it was bad to skip an interview because he didn’t have time to do it. He may have signed up for an interview and the times just didn’t work. When I helped my nephew with his college apps, he had to request an interview. Some schools were able to accommodate his request and some were not. But if you request one, and they offer it, I would say make every effort to go.
You can also look up the schools to which you applied to see if the interview is recommended.
ok thank you @Emsmom1
