Does attending a boarding school’s summer program have no impact at all on admissions to the year-round program? Can you ask your summer teachers (the ones who are faculty) for a recommendation and will that help at all?
Attending a summer program, which is basically open admissions, and which is a cash cow for the school, will not aid in admissions to the regular program.
Thanks… but the AO will still look at the report card and comments, right? If comments are positive, doesn’t this help just a tiny little bit??
I attend Exeter summer but still got rejected by Exeter. I remeber there is spot for the summer student but it probably very little. For me it isn’t impactful on my application.
Most schools are very clear that their summer programs will not boost the regular application. If you want to attend the summer program, feel free. But don’t view it as a backdoor.
Got it! I knew it wasn’t a back door, but my son had a pretty good report card last year and is going back to the same program this year, so I was just trying to gauge a bit what his chances might be in the application round (based on this forum… I guess… pretty difficult)! Thanks for the candid info.
