Impacted majors

if you think you have a good chance, is it wise to apply impacted majors so you don’t have to ram your head against a brick wall trying to get into them after being accepted?

You will still have to ram your head into the wall to get into the classes. My D was told she would have to wait until the end of her sophomore year to get the first prerequisite course in communications. That really tightens the schedule for graduating in four years.

It depends more on the popularity of the major than the impacted status of it. Getting into structural engineering courses at ucsd is easier than getting into, say, bio classes - sheer numbers are at play.

You might not be granted the major if you get into the school and later try to get into the major. It’s your call, of course.
