<p>I feel like it’s just as the saying goes-a good essay can heal the sick but can’t raise the dead. That said, I think some people that have stories that involve extenuating circumstances but yet the individual succeeds despite them will certainly have a sort of hook in the admissions process. Overall though, there is no substitute for strong academics. A compelling narrative will most likely be weighed more at a LAC</p>

<p>There is no set formula for a college application essay. It is just to be a personal essay. Using narrative is a convenient device that allows you to ‘show, not tell’. But you don’t have to make it all story and indeed you can make it without any story if you have another approach.</p>
