How important are awards to college admissions?
For instance, I have recently received two departmental awards at my school (Math and Science), as well as the University of Rochester Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award, the Society of Women Engineers Certificate of Appreciation, and the Princeton Book Award of Maine 2010, in addition to being a National Merit scholar.

So, what kind of effect do these kind of awards have on admissions? Do schools really care?

Sure they care. Those look pretty neat. I’m sure they’ll have a positive impact on your application.

Oh… and one more thing. Women intending to applying for (non-biology) engineering majors is a semi-hook in itself. It may give you a better chance at some schools.

Do you already know that you’ll make NMSF from your PSAT score? If so, then congrats! You’ll be notified about NMSF in Sept. Then NMF in late winter of senior year.

Re…awards…

It depends on where you’ll be applying. Some schools simply will admit by your stats, some will use these things to decide between students with similar stats.

What schools are you considering?

edited to add…I see that you got a 224 in Maine. Very good! You’ll definitely get named a NMSF in the fall. Follow all instructions in your packet, stay out of trouble, and you’ll make NMF. Congrats.

They matter not merely for college admissions but also to scholarship committees.

All these listings of prestigious awards seems very arrogant and self-centered to me…but its probably because I never get any
lol

College apps are not the place for self-effacing modesty; they demand self-promoting puffery.

ya and the Women’s Engineer award is awesome…if you plan on going into that field…female engineers these days are seen as heroes in terms of feminism and all that.and this award looks awesome…hopefully the COadm is a girl
