importance of ECs

how much do ECs weigh for your app? like if someone did only like a couple, and he/she started late (11th), would that look pretty bad?

i would think that after the given pts for something like volunteering, the only other way to bring ECs out is through the essay? am i even close to being right?

Go look at UCSD’s admission formula to see how many points you’ll get for ECs.

i saw and unless i’m leaving some stuff out, volunteering gets u a max of 300
it’s mostly about academics

does starting ECs junior yr look bad in general?

^ (10 chars)

^ any insight would be appreciated

I don’t see how getting involved in EC from your junior year can “look bad” on your application, but, if i remember the pt system correctly, it is pretty much pointless unless you are a high ranking officer or something along that line. I wouldn’t take my word for it though… The best thing for you to do is take Slorg’s advice and see where you stand on the point chart.

Also, since UCSD’s admission system is heavily point-based, the content of your personal statement doesn’t really matter much unless you write a sob story or write something extremely provocative or sickening that will get you outright rejected (and you can use your imagination for that ;)).

i know that starting junior yr may not get me the high positions, but at least i can get pts for hrs right? i saw it’s like 150 pts for 100 hrs
