Importance of IB Exam scores

Hey All,

I have recently graduated high school and am a full IB Diploma student. I took my IB exams in May and am anxious about my scores. I believe that I have done well except there is the possibility that I didn’t. I wanted to know the importance of IB exam scores when coming into the University of Chicago e.g., does it make a lot of difference if you score a 7 as opposed to a 5? I know that some introductory courses can be skipped if one has done well, but can they also be skipped with the placement exam?

I believe it does make a difference, but depends on what classes you take (http://collegecatalog.uchicago.edu/pdf/exam-credit.pdf</a>). Keep in mind no SLs are given credit, and there is no credit for Math, Physics and Economics HL. Math has a placement test and physics an accreditation exam but that doesn’t include lab or something. And unless you want elective credit, I don’t think History/English matters either… So, basically be chill about getting those results next week :)

The importance of IB is demonstrating the willingness to take on academic challenge. Credits? Not so much. You will be grateful for HL English when you get to Chicago! S2 took SL Philosophy last year, and had he decided to matriculate at Chicago, it probably would have been the single most useful course for him there.
