Importance of leadership

Does Brown care a lot about leadership positions on one’s application? I have many activities that I really care about and that I’m very involved in, but I never tried out for ‘President’ or ‘Vice-President’ spots. I’m the historian for most clubs because I love photography, but I feel as though my lack of leadership positions will be looked down upon.

I guess I’m trying to find someone who never had President or VP positions in anything but still got accepted to Brown… just for reassurance :)

Leadership tends to be an easy way to determine the level of your commitment at a quick glance. Is it make or break, probably not. But does it help? Yes, for sure. Leadership and initiative demonstrated in anyway is always looked upon very favorably.

Leadership shows a passion and committment to something, but I don’t think you necessarily have to be Pres/VP of a group to demonstrate that. If they can see (or you can convey) your level of committment or involvement in an activity, I think that goes over very well. They want to see a passion for something-not just a laundry list of clubs you have joined.
