Importance of SAT scores

i was wondering how important SAT scores are at the following colleges: Dartmouth, Pomona, Claremont Mckenna, UVA. Disregarding the rest of the application because i feel pretty comfortable, how does a 1400 (720M, 680V) look?

I would say a 1400 (provided that the rest of your application is strong) is more than enough to get into UVA. I’m pretty sure Claremont Mckennas median is about a 1400 so you should be okay. I visited Claremont Mckenna over the summer and loved it (its strong government program was what attracted me to it). Of course, your geographic location always plays into the admissions process. As far as how much SATs are looked at, based on the info. session at Claremont Mckenna, leadership and challenging coursework is more important, but SATs follow closely after. Its been two years since I was at the UVA info. session, but they made it pretty clear that SATs are not the end all when they look at applications. For example, stronger AP scores or SATIIs can make up for any weakness in SATS (not that you would need this help). Good luck!

thanks a lot, but how about Pomona and Dartmouth?

I don’t know about Dartmouth, but Pomona has higher SATs than Claremont Mckenna. I didn’t do the info session there, so I don’t know about how important SATs are in the admissions decision officially. However, an interesting thing that I heard while on the campus was that Pomona students sometimes think their better than the other Claremont colleges. This implies that Pomona probably looks harder at stuff like SATs.

yeah a 1400 at dartmouth is good…but then again a lot of people applying to dartmouth have an sat around there, so it’s hard to tell. But if you got other stats that look good as well, then you can def work with a 1400.

my friend got into dartmounth with an 1800 and a 3.9 GPA
