How heavily are SAT subject tests weighted for admission? Is it basically necessary to take them if you want to be competitive, or is it merely an additional boost in admissions? If anyone could answer this, that would be great!

i think it just gives you an additional boost. on the admissions site it says that sat subject tests are RECOMMENDED…so they’re not penalizing you for not having any. plenty of ppl got in this year without taking any… this is of course if you’re not applying for HPME (Honors Program in Medical Education)

I don’t know to what degree, if any, having no subject tests might hurt an applicant, but I have heard that if you are a little weak on either the SAT Math or English (i.e., Reading) sections, and you have great subject test scores in the corresponding subject, that that might shore up the weaker SATI score in the eyes of the Adcom.

I didn’t send mine, and was still admitted.
