How important is it to have taken a summer acting program through a college when applying for Tisch? It seems like all my friends who have been accepted have spent their summers at Carnegie Mellon, BU, or Tisch itself! To be a competitive applicant, is that pretty much a must-have?

I am trying to decide between a summer spanish immersion program (positives include making a teacher writing my rec. happy and looking well-rounded) and a BU summer acting program (positives are an admissions advantage and it’s more fun!)

I went to the summer program at Tisch this past summer and recently got accepted as a Tisch MT student this upcoming fall. While I would not say it is absolutely necessary to go to a summer program I do think that it is very very beneficial. Not only does it look good on a resume but, for me at least, some of the biggest breakthroughs in my acting and best training I have gotten came from going to the Tisch summer program as well as other summer programs. Will it make or break your acceptance? absolutely not, but from my personal experience I do think it gives you a little bit of a leg up. And while I can not speak personally for the BU summer program because I haven’t gone to it I can say that some of my best memories and some of the most interesting experiences I have had have came from the summer programs I have gone to. I hope this helps a little with your decision!

Thanks for the info! So you have done a lot of summer theatre programs? Also, what studio are you in?

Yes I did the Tisch Summer program, Broadway Theatre Project, and the Interlochen summer program. I got into New studio on broadway: musical theatre.
