Important Election Result Tomorrow?

Will Jim Rice FINALLY make it into the Baseball Hall of Fame?

I thought he was probably the most fearsome hitter of his best decade (75-85) - there was no one else a pitcher feared to face more. I say it’s about time!

Yep. I also think it’s a shame that the Hall never seems to have taken Steve Garvey seriously. Not being a Yankee sucks sometimes…

(Actually, in Garvey’s case, it seems to have a lot to do with personality. If only he’d punched out a fan or refused to talk to the press for a couple of years.)

Steve Garvey may have been a great ballplayer but his personal life since retirement has been a shambles. That could have something to do with it.

Yeah it looks like in this very weak year with no major star the writers will be content to give the nod to Rice and Gossage. They will also relish in leaving McGuire off the list and they practice for when Bonds first appears on the ballot. It will be interesting to see how the whole Clemens deal plays out. Whereas the general public have a short attention span the writers never forget. Clemens lawsuit against McNamee that was filed last night will be interesting. Clemens has the resources to bleed McNamee into submission. I await to see if McNamee gets someone to take on Clemens formidable legal team and would love to see how they handle discovery.

Rice WAS a major star.

Jim Rice is a Hall of Famer

A link to his stats- [Jim Rice Statistics - Baseball-Reference.com](Jim Rice Stats, Height, Weight, Position, Rookie Status & More | Baseball-Reference.com)

An adjusted OPS+ of 128. Not bad.

I think his tendency to be quiet and refrain from the media has played a large role in his delayed, if any entrance to the hall.

On the Red Sox all-time leader list, he trails only Williams and Yastrzemski in HR, RBI, hits, and total bases.
