<li><p>Is it OK if the significant person essay is not really about the person but about an experience inolving a person? Thats suppossed to be my 500 word but now its a little less then 600 words. Is that too long?</p></li>

<li><p>I think that specific events are probably even better than generalizations, but make sure some sort of characteristic or value comes out in whatever you write about.</p></li>
<li><p>I’m sure they’re not gonna be like “well this was a great essay, but technical, that is not a value, so we’d better reject him.” However, i do think that the whole “i can do anything” idea sounds a little pompous from the way you describe it. maybe it’s different in the essay, but you might still do better with another topic.</p></li>
<li><p>i think more people pick their own quote than anything. i’d say don’t check any boxes at all, except for the influential person.</p></li>

<p>For the using your own quote, I was torn between whether to write it before the essay or not, but I decided against it. My only concern is that I actually reference two quotations, but one is in the introduction and the other in the conclusion, so it should be clear which was my selected quote (Ironically, the one I based the paper on is the one in the conclusion, but most people who’ve read it assume the other way).</p>
<p>The admission office said that if you choose your own quote to put it at the beginning of your essay. I actually e-mailed them with other essay-related questions, and they happened to include this little tidbit in their response.</p>
