important Federal Work Study Question

I’m currently a student at Johns Hopkins. I’m interested in this position at Harvard for the summer as a healthcare research assistant. i was wondering since this job requires summer workstudy,

1) My financial aid package says I have $2500 first semester and $2500 second semester for federal work study. how does Summer workstudy work? (Such as do I have to apply for it? Do I fill out a form with Harvard or with Hopkins?) Will I get the same amount for summer as I did for the fall and spring?

2) Can my federal workstudy package transfer from school to school? As in, since I’m a registered student at Hopkins, do I have to be registered student at Harvard to be able to use my work study package there?

Thank you. Reply ASAP s neccessary.

I don’t think you can transfer work study awards from one school to another. Some schools do not even allow work study funds to be used for summer employment.

Your best bet would be to contact both schools and ask…

If Harvard’s job is a work study job, it would be using federal funds awarded to Harvard (not JHU) to fund those jobs.

Each school seems to have their own version of how the rules apply, but my Berkeley DD used her F/S total WS $ in summers, too, same job. She did have to be careful which year it was, the prior year or the next year. They did NOT add more for the summer, they used that total for summer hours, too. You can request that a portion of federal loans be switched to work study if you want more, but even with summer, DD never had more than $2500 TOTAL WS earnings.

At some schools you can even create a WS job in the community, so you might be able to use it at H, but it would depend on the paople involved in administering it. Ask, if you don’t like the answer, ask a supervisor

Thank you very much.

I cleared everything up by calling up the finaid department. I’m not allowed to use my WS funding (which was actually $2500 WS total) outside of JHU campus.

Thanks very much for your help. I appreciate it.
