Hello everyone. so i’m a senior and for personal reasons i took a break this semester and am planning on returning in the spring semester which is my last semester to graduate. anyways, i didn’t do a formal leave of absence form because previously you did not need to do it to take a break and could just enroll the next semester you plan to return. anyways, i found out that starting this semester, which is the exact semester i decided to take a break, they changed the policy so that if you didn’t do a formal leave of absence and get it approved by the deadline, you have to apply for readmission to your program to continue your degree. they never notified us of this change that occured this semester, so you wouldn’t have known unless you looked it up. and i assumed it was the same as all the previous years because when i looked it before the policy hadn’t changed yet. but it was just recently changed for this semester. anyways, would there be any way that i could just enroll in classes without applying for readmission? there would be no reason why I wouldn’t be accepted for readmission since i meet all the requirements but it’s just very annoying that they decided to change the policy the exact semester I take a break and not any of the previous years, and then not clearly let us know of this policy change.
None of us can possibly answer this question! You need to check with your school.
yes i’m going to check with them asap but it’s the weekend so i can’t and was wondering if anyone has been in this situation or had any insight before i did.
This probably belongs in the college admissions forum if you want someone’s thoughts. Not the parents forum.
The only people who can answer your question, are the people at your college/university. Pick up the phone and call them on Monday.
Unless you took a break because you were failing your classes, applying for readmission is not a big deal. That college/university already has all of your transcripts. Your own professors there can write any letters of recommendation that are required. You just will have to round up those letters, and shell out the application fee.
I highly doubt it if you want to continue as a degree seeking student. Only the school can answer this. I can also guarantee that it will be easier to follow the rules then to convince them that the rules should not apply to you,
At my kid’s school, applying for readmission is a simple online process. It is more of paper process to verify that you are a student in good standing or if it was a medical issue that you are medically clear to return. It is not like applying as a Freshman. The purpose is not to prove you are qualified but to ensure that the cause for the leave has been resolved and is not likely to become a future issue. Their approval process takes a few days.
May I suggest that when you talk to the people at your school, you adopt the following attitude:
“I think I screwed up. I apologize if I’m causing you any extra work. How can we work together to fix this?”
It works really well in most situations – at least for me. Most people like to cooperate with other cooperative people.
Did you ever work out the problems with the professor you posted about previously?
Is this the college where you were having trouble passing courses? They may deny your application if you didn’t make satisfactory academic progress. I don’t think there’s any college that will give a degree to a nonmatriculated student, so you need to talk to admissions to see how to proceed.
i knew i shouldn’t have posted in the parent’s forum. these answers have been very unhelpful and i am closing this thread. also, please do not bring up past unrelevant questions.
You can’t close threads. That’s not how this forum works.
You also can’t run your whole life from answers you don’t like, which seems to be your pattern based on posts here.
yes you can actually, i’ve seen numerous threads that have been closed. I am not running from anything, you can’t assume anything about me based just on online questions, you know nothing about me. anyways, i take no concern to answers posted by anonymous strangers that actually don’t know what their talking about at all and just seem to like to insult people for fun. I will not be responding anymore since it seems responders clearly can’t seem to be civil. it’s not even that i don’t like the answers, they are just plain rude and uncivil.
I agree with posts 1 and 4. Checking with your school seems like excellent advice. They can tell you school policy better than we, I’m sure.
I also like Marian’s post 6. One’s attitude can really make a difference when seeking a favor.

@estara89 : You will need to request the moderators to close the thread. It’s not in the control of users – even the original poster. Or, just ignore it, et your email options not to receive updates, and let it die from lack of attention. Best, ATS
Your previous posts asking questions here, the advice you have been given in response, and the manner in which you have reacted to that advice, are all highly relevant. They help inform readers how best to respond to your new question.
From a previous thread last year:
On the contrary, because we know a lot about you from your previous posts, we can make some assumptions.
well there’s no point in a beating a dead horse by bring up past questions that don’t help answer this question at all, after all the OP is here to ask for help on this particular question, or else they wouldn’t have taken the time to ask. We can’t assume anything about OP just by their posts if we don’t know them in real life nor have we been in OP’s situation and know the whole story. That being said, no one here can really answer the question besides the school.
