IMPORTANT! TUFTS Interview Question!

Ok, i know around 10 people applying to Tufts from my ares, most received this letter by mail telling them they dont offer interviews in our area, whereas I already got contacted and I took the interview, I had to travel somewhere around an hour away, but I didnt tell them anything like that I want to take the interview somewhere else. Anyway, so only me and this girl got contacted the rest all got letters telling them they dont offer interviews in our area. Does Tufts chooose the people specifically? or is it random? Because I know they require interviews?
Btw me and the other girl are the most qualified from our area, most of the rest are just applying for the hell of it.
So…help please?

If you and the girl are the most qualified applicants in your area, then I suppose you could take it as a sign that your applications are at least being seriously considered.

But it really doesn’t matter.

It could be that you are both more qualified; but honestly, it woudl surprise me if this soon in the game the admissions committee has already looked at your RD applications, seeing that they’re still not done with the ED II round. I think it’s random or… perhaps you and this girl have zip codes that look closer to an interviewer though your friends with the zip code one town over are technically just as close to the interviewer.

This is the way it works:
As soon as the application is is received (Common App or Tufts Supplement), the student’s name is uploaded to the interview system. There’s not much information on the system beyond name, address, high school name, possible academic interests. NO information about whether or not you’re a good candidate. The regional interview committee chairs use the system to assign students to interviewers. Some of the regions are so big that the committee chair may not completely understand the geography, so he or she may not realize that (a) you had to travel for an hour or (b) you would have been willing to travel for an hour. Interviews are DEFINITELY not assigned based on whether or not a student is a likely prospect.

But, since you’re serious, I’m glad you got an interview. Good luck!

haha…damn!
I’m just really happy I got chosen for an interview even if it was completely random. I think my interview went really well, so I’m happy that it’ll give my application an extra boost lol.

They’re not required, they’re just recommended. I keep telling people that they shouldn’t sweat it if they didn’t get one.
