<p>What does hpme look for? I guess in other words, what insures that you get in? I know essays are crucial, im working on that, but what else guys??? I mean other than scores, gpa. Maybe summer programs?(too bad i can’t get into any cuz i don’t have a citizenship or permanent residence, but not illegal!

<p>Umm, I’m pretty sure they look at everything. Basically, an HPME student is the best in every category (test scores, gpa, ec, medical ec, research, etc) But, many of these students also have a hook.</p>
<p>For example, I had a friend who got in last year, and I’m pretty sure he got in because of his personality. He had a 36, he took the toughest classes, had published research, etc, but he was also the editor of the yearbook.</p>
<p>HPME requires one to be special.</p>
<p>I would suggest that you definitely look into summer programs, maybe find someplace to do research, shadow a few doctors, volunteer at local hospitals etc. Also, make sure you have stellar grades and test scores, along with a rigorous schedule.</p>
