important writing question

Writing a novel takes nine to twelve months depending upon the author’s experience ,knowledge and speed. Should there be a comma before depending and why and when do use a comma before -ing?

Yes, I think there should be a comma before depending.

Umm okay I want a sure answer…anyone elsr ?

If “ing” phrases typically describe a word that happens much earlier in the sentence (in this case “nine to twelve months”), you should put a comma before them.

Since (“nine to twelve months”) is really close to the -ing verb, you do not need a comma
